Counseling with Steve Ball, LMSW

PRONOUNS: HE/HIM/HIS
Seeking counseling is a sign of courage and strength. You are on a positive and constructive path. Each person is valuable and views life through their unique lens, known only to them. I offer a safe, hopeful, and supportive space for you to feel valued, comfortable, and free from judgement.

We will work together and create a beneficial and personalized way to address the reason or reasons that you decided to start counseling. As a client-centered counselor, my approach is relational and integrative. My counseling foundation is based on cognitive-behavior, developmental, systems, mindfulness, self-compassion, and solution-focused modalities
and methods.

As part of counseling, we will examine how conscious and unconscious thought influences behavior. Sometimes a person may engage in self-defeating behavior they are not aware of. Examining the boundary of thought and behavior patterns can help preserve what thoughts and behaviors have worked well in the past, while exposing those that have not worked well.

I welcome the opportunity to walk alongside you during your counseling journey. My practice areas include academic pursuit, anxiety, depression, difficult life transitions, divorcing and divorced persons, faith, grief and loss, end of life issues, home, social or occupational pressures, how family of origin issues influence behavior and personality, LGBTQQIP2SAA issues, life changing illnesses, men’s issues, spirituality, and more.

About Steve Ball

As a licensed clinical social worker (LMSW), I have partnered with diverse clients for over 20 years. I have a master’s degree in social work from the University of Maryland, with a concentration in clinical mental health. I have worked in outpatient clinics, inpatient behavioral health hospitals, emergency rooms, general hospitals, intensive outpatient services, residential and day treatment, dialysis, and hospice services.

Prior to my current clinical behavioral health career, I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin. I worked as the coordinator of a senior citizens poverty law program, then later became a disability rights specialist, advocating for individuals with mental health issues during their treatment at state and privately owned, health care facilities in Maryland.
