Marissa is passionate about navigating identity and self-worth through challenging life transitions. Generally, Marissa works from a trauma-informed, psychodynamic theoretical perspective. She also incorporates elements of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical-Behavior Therapy, and Narrative Therapy into her treatment approaches. Marissa adjusts her approaches based on the client’s needs and preferences.
Marissa believes that it is important to address the symptoms that cause a client’s distress, but that it is not beneficial to the client to focus only on symptom management. Marissa wants to help her clients reflect on their experiences to identify patterns that can help them understand why they feel a certain way and what they can do to change any negative recurring themes they may be experiencing.

Marissa offers both in-person and telehealth services.

About Marissa Stringer

 

Marissa Stringer is a Limited Licensed Master of Social Work (LLMSW) practicing in Ann Arbor, MI. Marissa has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in social work from Wayne State University. Before joining the team at Identity Counseling Psychology, Marissa worked in several different sectors of mental health, ranging from researching treatments for families with young children to working with adolescents in Wayne County’s juvenile justice system to adult inpatient psychiatry. Her wide range of background experiences allows her to connect with clients more effectively and to better understand the values, identities, and perspectives of others that differ drastically from her own.
